Now that the winter golf season is in full swing, a golfer will spend an average of four hours during the hottest part of the day on the golf course. Here are our 5 great top tips to help you stay protected from the intense sun rays.
Sunscreen is extremely important as you will be spending a lot of time in the sun. Make sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Don’t forget your ears! Even with a cap your ears and neck will be exposed, so ensure you reapply sunscreen every 40 minutes.
Cover up! In addition to the sunscreen, use glasses to reduce the glare and protect your eyes and the delicate skin around them. Add a broad brimmed hat to your sportswear to protect your head, face and neck from the sun.
Seek the shade and stay hydrated! Take regular breaks from the sun by finding a shady tree or relax on the covered golf cart. Ensure that each member of your team has at least a litre of water available to them during each round. Don’t forget that golf umbrellas are not just for the rain, they are also specially designed to protect you from UV rays.
Choose your tee time wisely, by choosing your tee time for earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon, you will not only avoid the sun at its most intense and enjoy a more pleasant temperature but you will often be able to take advantage of reduced golf rates.
Your lips are skin too! Moisturise and protect your lips with a broad spectrum UVA/UVB spf lip balm. Don’t forget to reapply every three to four holes as the balm will wear off as you keep yourself hydrated with regular water breaks.
